What is gestational diabetes? 4

Oct 24, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

In a previous question I had asked if I was having early sign of pregnancy. I said I was experiencing stomach cramps, spotting, mood swings, early morning headaches, and a yeast infection. Someones reply was that I sound pregnant, I could lose it, and I could have gestational diabetes. Please Help!!

Gestational diabetes is a sugar glucose/insulin impairment th@ happens only during pregnancy. It can cause a LOT of health problems for both you & your baby. There have been instances where babies have been taken early for the mother’s sake, the baby’s sake or both. Get to a doctor immediately & have them check for this condition!

Frequent urination and extreme thirst, but it’s not diabetes 3

Oct 24, 2009 | Frequent Urination Sign Diabetes

I’m still 16, I have frequent urination just like UTI but with 24 hours extreme thirst, it’s like diabetes but it’s not, no matter how much i drink i still feel thirsty, I can’t sleep because the thirst and my throat and mouth really dry and smelly,I checked my urine at hospital 2 times but they said there’s nothing wrong with my urine, I thought it is UTI but i dont know if UTI make ppl thirst, I live in agony and craving for water for months!,I take anti-biotics and probiotics and nothing happen, help? what should I do? What is this disease, i tried google but it’s hopeless, i’ve never met urologist before and i wish i can avoid from urologist to check my penis and balls lol

Not meaning to scare you or anything, but it sounds like Type 2 Diabetes. Trust me, look it up. Your not seeing any results with the anti-biotics because Type 2 Diabetes is not bacterial. Nothing will show up in your urine either.

If it is Type 2 Diabetes, it is fairly easy to handle. I wouldn’t worry too much. But go get it checked out in case you do have it!

Thanks and I hope this helps!

Anyone with past experience w/ gestational diabetes in more than one pregnancy? 2

Oct 12, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

I am having my third biological child (my oldest is my stepson). i had gestational diabetes with my second pregnancy. my doctor said that it is most likely that i will have gestational diabetes with any future pregnancies. so with that being said, i am assuming i will have it again with this new pregnancy. and i have take steps to change my diet accordingly to keep my blood sugar in check. of course they don’t check for diabetes until later in the pregnancy..BUT i will be monitored more closely. (sorry…i ramble when im pregnant), my question is..has anyone been through 2 diabetic pregnancies. can diet and excersise prevent it? or is it more than likely inevitable that i will have gestational diabetes again with this baby.

and i would also like to know your experiences with a second diabetic pregnancy. signs of destress to look for, as i know i am considered "high risk".

thanks

I had gestational dibetes with my second daughter and she was almost 10 lbs at birth but i did not have it with my third and she only weighed 5lb 3.5oz but very healthy. Now i am 6 monthspregnant with baby number four and my only boy, my ob said that he is VERY big and actually change my due date by ten days and may change it more after getting the U/S results back. It is Prob diabetes again so i really don’t think it necisarily comes after having it previously. I really hope this was some help. Good luck and Blessed Be

Sudden Blurred vision – What could it be? 1

Oct 12, 2009 | Diabetes Blurred Vision

I am 28 years old. I started getting blurred vision rather suddenly and have had it for 3 days now. When I am out in the sun, or looking at a computer screen (pretty much doing anything that involves a lot of light) my vision is blurred. It is in both eyes but mostly my left. However, if I am outside on a nighttime, with minimal light, I seem to be ok.

As far as I am aware, I don’t have diabetes, what could it be?

See your health care provider as soon as possible (ophthalmologist).
Gradual blurring of vision, with no improvement by moving closer or farther away: Visit ophthalmologist-possible cataract (scar tissue forming in the lens of the eye), also check for diabetes or any underlying health problems. And good luck.

Do they periodically check toddlers blood glucose for diabetes? 3

Sep 24, 2009 | Blood Glucose Diabetes

I was wondering if they periodically check blood sugar levels in toddlers. It never occurred to me that it might be possible my daughter could have diabetes. Her fasting levels are about 119-125 and her eating levels are about 170 to 260 being the highest. She doesn’t drink soda or cool aid and usually drinks water or milk. I don’t know whether children’s sugar tend to run higher or whether they should be around the same. I have gestational diabetes and my grandfather had type II, but my daughter eats healthy and if anything has more trouble gaining weight than anything. I know part of the signs but she has seemed to always be hungry (since birth), never gained weight (She weighs 22 pounds at one month shy of two), and her attitude is sometimes very outspoken and cranky, (well, she is almost two and has always had a little bit of an attitude) and she has never really acted that differently than usual. She takes one to two naps and sleeps at night and in general is a very well behaved toddler. I talked to my mom (who was a registered nurse) about the sugar levels and she doesn’t think I should be concerned. I’m calling a doctor tomorrow (but wont be able to schedule until Tuesday due to the fact that I have 3 appointments for my pregnancy tomorrow), but want to hear opinions about what anyone who has diabetes thinks. Even if your someone who knows about diabetes. I’m a little bit of a diabetic idiot (wonder whether they have diabetes for dummies) so don’t know what normal ranges are. I only know that an adults fasting should be around 80 and about 120 or so for eating. I don’t even know what the highest normal range is for an adult. Only that 80 and 120 are the round about normal ranges (I’m not even sure that is right). I was only diagnosed a week ago with gestational diabetes. Please don’t say ask your doctor. I am taking her, but in the meantime I would like to know what the best thing to help maintain her sugars. I only give her Splenda when it comes to sweets. Do I need to get cherrios and throw away fruit loops? Can she have juice at all? I don’t have things like cookies or anything at all. I have veggies, fruits and meats such as chicken and shrimp and lean lean beef.

No they don’t check toddler’s blood sugar on a regular basis. This is too much information for me to address all of it, so I’m going to just give you the basics. At that age it’s most likely type 1 … but with numbers that low you very likely have just caught it at the beginning. Take her to the doctor soon, it can get dangerous quickly.

Type 1 diabetes does not have to do with weight or diet, and it is not your fault if your daughter has it. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the cells that produce insulin until they don’t work anymore. It’s the same type of thing as an allergy, which is when the immune system attacks things that are harmless. Except this is much more serious, of course.

And it has nothing to do with your gestational diabetes, or your grandpa’s type 2. They are different diseases with different causes. The treatment is different too.

What constitutes "frequent urination" when it comes to diabetes symptoms? 13

Sep 21, 2009 | Frequent Urination Sign Diabetes

I was just wondering.

Is it every 5 minutes?
Every 15 minutes?
Every 30 minutes?
Every 2 hours?
Every 4 hours?

If someone could help me out, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

Just before my husband was diagnosed with type I he was going about 1-2 times an hour during some parts of the day. It usually followed sugary drinks. He was experiencing the extreme thirst and was drinking Gatorade which was then causing him to use the restroom very often, he said it was often painful to go. If you are going much more often than usual and experiencing any other symptoms you should go and get check right away.

What are the signs/symptoms of diabetes? 8

Jun 19, 2009 | Signs Symptoms of Diabetes

also, is it hereditary? My grandmother has it, and she is telling me that I should get myself checked.

It is hereditay, but you may not develope it before 40, and prevention always is better than treatment so keep a good diet, work out regularly drink lots of water and go for a medical check up yearly specially after 35.

don’t panic babe, all my family has diabetes and I’m totally ok with it, living happly cus I don’t have to worry bout something did not acually happen yet ,though a bet of prevention won’t hurt!
