** could it be gestational diabetes **?
Nov 03, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes
hey i am almost 16 weeks prego .. and i have noticed if i stand up too long .. first i feel like i have to push my belly out .. like i am too full or something even if i haven*t eaten anything or not much at all .. then i begin to get like sweaty .. and i breath all heavy .. i get really hot and flushed and then i feel dizzy and like i am going to pass out .. on top of that i drink a lot like more than a gallon of water a day .. and i always feel thirsty .. for some reason water is the ONLY thing that helps with my thirst !! i just noticed this starting last week .. and i am kind of worried about it b/c of my job .. i am an ultrasound tech so i stand a lot .. my job allows me to sit and scan, but it isn*t the easiest thing to do .. some ultrasounds can take over an hour to 2 hours to complete !! so not being able to stand can be a problem .. has anyone had gestational diabetes or know of anyone who has had it .. what are the signs and symptoms .. thanks <3
Thoes are definalty syptoms of GD, i would go to your doctor asap and he will get you to do a 2 or a 3 hour glucose test and that way you will find out for sure if you have it or not.

i dont know about gestational diabetes sorry…but my mom is diabetic and ive taken care of her since i was four. she gets really sweaty when her sugar goes low….and starts acting out of it…..then she cant stand, and things get worse and worse from there leading to convulsions. if its the same as gestational diabetes i would suggest keeping orange juice near you and glucose tablets or they make glucose gel tube thingys. hope i helped!

36 weeks 5 days, doc thinks i may have GD i drink litres and litres of water a day. It is the only thing that makes me feel hydrated but it had to be icey water or icey cold. Chewing on ice blocks all the time. Hasnt sent me for a glucose test because i am most likely being induced in a couple of weeks so i just have to watch what i eat.

Your symptoms of thirst could be a clue, but the dizziness is probably not related. The occasional episode of dizziness is normal during pregnancy, but frequent ones are not. You should definintely mention all of your problems to your doctor – if he or she suspects GD, you might be able to take a glucose test early (generally they are not given until around 28 weeks). Also, get your iron level checked. I had some dizziness in my 6th or 7th month and found out my blood count was a little low. All I had to do was add more iron to my diet to fix it. Good luck and congrats!

I had GD with my last pregnancy and I just remember feeling really tired and when I ate anything sweet I would feel very nauseated and get headaches.
