Sep 27, 2009 | Diabetes Excessive Thirst
My son is showing signs of diabetes the main 1 is i cant feed him enough he is always hungry I couldnt get a drs appt today so am left worried all weekend can any1 tell me what would be classed as excessive thirst (he just turned 1) also he is severly anemic (on iron) hb level 7.2 does any1 know if anemia is common in diabetes
To the first answerer if you can read i said i couldnt get an appointment so maybe you should get with the programme and only answer if you have something worthwhile to add
I worried about the same thing with my son and he is now 21 months old, he just could not get enough to drink. I took him to his pediatrician and he told me that in babies and sometimes children that a sign of juvenile onset diabetes is excessive vomiting. I had never known that, So we waited out the thirst and he has calmed down now and is doing fine! Hope it all turns out alright for you.

go to the doctor, not yahoo answers.
you’re a mom now, get with the program and don’t count on strangers to give you medical advice.

Anemia is not a sign of diabetes.
Does your son seem overly tired ? Is he thin ?
Is he eating enough and what is he drinking to quench his thirst ? I am just concerned that he could be drinking his meals if he isn’t eating enough food .
I wish you the best.
Good luck.
Oh BTW- your doctor can check his urine by pressing a urine test strip into a wet diaper. You can even buy the test strips at the drug store and do it yourself.Any sign of sugar in the urine is not good.
