What are the causes of polydipsia (excessive thirst)?
Sep 21, 2009 | Diabetes Excessive Thirst
I’ve been feeling pretty thirsty lately over the last few weeks. I know that diabetes is a symptom, but what are the others?
Thanks.
Go into Diabetes section of Yahoo QA who can better address your concerns about diabetes.
When we are hypovolemic we get really thirsty. But diabetes has specific symptoms like fruity smelling breath, etc. Knock off the sugar and consult with the experts at the diabetic QA……..due to being thirsty over weeks as opposed to days.

no diabetes is the illness, polydipsia is the symptom, but being dehydrated, fever, and other diseases can cause it, and certain drugs.

Dehydration, kidney infection, diabetes, if excessive thirst is your only symptom, just drink more water, or try some gatorade. Good Luck.

Take your weight, divide by 1/2 & that’s how many ounces of water you ought to drink each day.
DO NOT drink more.
Polydipsia, if you give into it can cause water poisoning by messing up & reducing your electrolytes to dangerous levels.
Primary polydipsia is when the kidney & pituitary gland are normal & water intake & output decrease during sleep. There is psychogenic polydipsia with normal body function can be a sign of a psychiatric illness.
Other diseases can be diabetes insipidus, remote head trauma, sarcoidosis & Vitamin A intoxication.
Google: mayo clinic>>diseases>>diabetes insipidus
>>sarcoidosis
Good luck
