I take 4 insulin injections and numerous oral medications per day for my type 1 diabetes. I have also slipped off the wagon and consumed far more carbs than healthy for me. I can manipulate my glucose results BUT there is a test which is not commonly run which my doc uses. It's an HbA1C. It tells a 3 month tale of glucose levels whereas the other tests reflects what's in my circulatory system NOW. It may be that the wrong test is being done. Get some suggestions from your local Diabetes Association, too.

I will begin by pointing out that his is very very unlikely. But needs attention if it is the case as early treatment is important. Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD), also called branched-chain ketoaciduria, is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder. Characterized in an infant by the presence of sweet-smelling urine, with an odor similar to that of maple syrup, infants with this disease seem healthy at birth.
References :
genzymegenetics.com

My Niece Had Something Similar When She Was About 12-14 Months...
Her Dad, Nanny & Great Grandfather All Have Diabetes But She Has Healthy Blood Sugar Readings... But Doctors Told My Sister That If It Was Something Like Diabetes, It Shouldn't Be A Problem Until They Are About 3... So I Think Your Safe To Rule That Out.

I Guess It Would Depend On What Kind Of Things Are In Her Diet... Fruit & It's Juice Can Do That
References :
I would be inclined to take her to the doctors. Sweet smelling urine is one thing but coupled with excessive thirst just doesn't sound right. There are so many things that it could be that you are best to have a doctor look into it. Good luck.
