Do I have diabetes if the only symptom is thirst?
Sep 03, 2009 | Diabetes Excessive Thirst
I have been feeling an excessive thirst for a couple of days. I remembered from somewhere that it is the symptom of diabetes so I found some information on this, and figured that it is the only symptom so far. I am 18. Do I most likely have diabetes just out of nowhere or am I just freaking out?
Thank you for your help.
okay stay calm and take a blood test at your next doctors appointment then tell him about your extended dehydration

Only a doctor can tell you if you have diabetes. Not a bunch of strangers online that only know you’ve been more thirsty than usual lately.
Diabetes isn’t the only reason one might be frequently thirsty.

Diabetes canNOT be diagnosed form symptoms alone. Blood Tests from a doctor are REQUIRED.
Ask you doctor to perform the A1C test. this test is accurate, simple, and relatively cheap. this test will tell you IF you are diabetic.
Yes, diabetes can come just "out of nowhere". That’s rather odd, but NOT impossible. Better to be checked and found safe, than to be unchecked and slowly kill yourself.

Thirst is definitely a symptom of Diabetes Mellitus, but your thirst can mean anything.
More than likely you are probably dehydrated or something other than Diabetes.
IF you don’t feel satisfied with what answers you get here, then get some tests done by your doctor.
