Vision gets blurry when I’m hungry; i tested negative for diabetes..what could it be?

Nov 20, 2009 | Diabetes Blurred Vision

like i said I got my blood sugar levels checked and it came out negative for diabetes and hyperthyroidism. Whenever I get hungry, my vision starts to blur..once i eat a bit it gets better again. Any ideas as to why this maybe?

I get that too.My vision would be blurry, I would get all shaky & feel really unwell all of a sudden. My symptoms were due to low blood pressure.

    You could still have low blood sugar. Some people have symptoms of low blood sugar before they drop below 100. Some people can get very low with no symptoms.

    If you get hungry, eat something.

    You may be suffering from what is termed ‘Moderate Hypoglycemia,’ which is not necessarily related to diabetes, but is a term meaning low-blood-sugar. Hypoglycemia does not only mean diabetes although blurred vision is a symptom of both. This condition can at times be caused by certain medications that cause an increase in insulin levels or even insulin producing tumors (insulinomas). There is another condition termed ‘Pre-Diabetes’ for those who have insulin resistance. These persons can have “low blood sugar on occasion if their high circulating insulin levels are further challenged by a prolonged period of fasting.” You would test negative for diabetes in each of these cases but at certain points during the day you would test positive for low blood sugar or rather your blood sugar levels would test below normal.

    If blood sugar continues to fall, the nervous system will be affected. Symptoms usually develop when the blood sugar falls below 55 mg/dL and may include:

    * Mood changes, such as irritability, anxiety, restlessness, or anger.
    * Confusion, difficulty in thinking, or inability to concentrate.
    * Blurred vision, dizziness, or headache.
    * Weakness, lack of energy.
    * Poor coordination.
    * Difficulty walking or talking, such as staggering or slurred speech

    I believe your physician has placed you in the category of Idiopathic hypoglycemia, indicating that they do not know why your blood sugar is low if they even made that analogy. I do have to assume that your blood sugar is low since your dizziness fades after you eat and since you did not mention that it was not.
