question about diabetes?

Nov 03, 2009 | Diabetes Blurred Vision

I know all the symptoms for diabetes, I get tired all the time, I get plenty of rest everyday. Now my question is I eat a lot, I am 115 lbs and don’t seem to gain weight, it’s been like this since my freshman year in high school. I get up every day between 12am-3am to get something to drink because I’m thirsty then drink a lot of fluids at work. I know the symptoms for diabetes is blurred vision (which I have and I wear glasses, plus have astigmatism), extreme thirst, frequent urination (I don’t usually go throughout the day, I just usually hold it–i know that’s not good), I don’t exercise–haven’t since my freshman year in high school (for gym) since I have most of these symptoms and don’t exercise could I be at risk? Also could me eating so much and not gaining weight be a symptom for diabetes?

I wouldn’t worry too much – although it’s worth having a doctor check these things out.

If you can hold urine all day, you don’t fit the "frequent urination" requirement. If you can’t help but go every two hours, 24/7, that is the usual symptom. You other questions reference being a single(?) mother, so you are under a great deal of stress, which could easily explain the tiredness.

Do you have blurred vision with your glasses on? With diabetes, eye trouble isn’t affected with glasses.

As far as not gaining weight, you may not really be aware of how much or how little you eat (it’s common – it’s just something people often aren’t really aware of) or you may simply have a good metabolism, or are naturally active. And, especially if you are under 30, all that can change, and suddenly you gain weight with the same amount of eating.

But you should visit a doctor, and have a urine test and a fasting blood test to check for diabetes and other such things – just to be on the safe side.

I don’t think the weight situation is your problem. I would go and have your sugars tested. I found out I had diabetes when I couldn’t read billboards! After they put me on medication I lost 73lbs! Now my sugars are good. If you’re only 115 lbs. weight loss probably won’t help but exercising will. Good luck.

If you do have diabetes, then the lack of insulin is causing your lack of weight gain. Insulin is the hormone that breaks down sugars and stores them as fat. An increased appetite is also a sign of diabetes.

I strongly suggest you go to your doctor and have a chat and ask to be tested. The quicker you start treatment, if it is diabetes, the less risk you have of getting diabetes complications such as neuropathy.

How much water are you drinking? A person should be drinking 8-10 8oz glasses of water a day. And being on the skinny side isn’t usually normal for a type 2 diabetic. Usually they are heavier and have heard a few times where diabetes almost dissapears if someone losses weight.
Though if you have type 1 it does the opposite. And is usually diagnosed as children or young adults that’s why it’s usually known as Juvenille diabetes but it is also known as insulin dependent diabetes.
Follow the link to the source but I would see a doctor asap. Because diabetes can be fatal if not taking care of correctly.

You are right about the symptoms. And yes if you do eat a lot especially carbs like rice or pasta and still dont get heavy, there could be something in it. I hope the fluids that you drink at work is just pure water coz that helps wash our organs like the kidney, which is one of the biggest risk for diabetics. Get your blood sugar checked.

You should have your sugar tested, I lost weight when I became diabetic, which is unusual and I also ate good, but really got tired after I ate. Best to get tested. If you know of someone that is diabetic, maybe they will let you test, be sure to use a clean needle. That is how I found out I was diabetic, I tested with a friends glucometer.

Not gaining weight is a good thing. You must have an extremely high metabolism rate, if you are eating a lot, not excersizing and not gaining weight. Most of us would not get along with that.

Looking at your conditions, maybe you might want to try nutritional therapy to replenish your cells with the essential 46 vitamins.

My grandmother, 76 years old, who has been a diabetic patient for many years, and she is taking Spirulina (Certified Organic by Japan Health Food Association), and when the doctor diagnosed her, her blood sugar has dropped to normal level and she is feeling more energetic than last time.

The human requires 46 essential nutrients from the daily diet. Essential vitamins consist of vitamins, minerals, proteins (amino acids).

    Essential nutrients:

1)Most are not produced by the body. ? 100% sourced from our diet
2)Many are broken down, lost or excreted daily. ? Required daily
3)Should be consumed in balanced proportions. ?Nutritional intake should be balanced.
4)Are interdependent and may not be able to function without the presence of others. ? The 46 essential nutrients should be presented at all times.

Lacking of 46 essential nutrients, Acidic body condition, unhealthy lifestyle will lead to unhealthy cells ? Semi unhealthy state – headache, fatigue, shoulders ache ? Long term will lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, leukemia, many 21st century common diseases.
