Question about blurred vision and pregnancy?
Oct 15, 2009 | Diabetes Blurred Vision
I had a blood test 4 days ago for gestational diabetes, and afterwards I was fine, but ever since then I’ve been getting blurred vision off and on. Is it linked to that test, or is it just normal in pregnancy?
I haven’t been lightheaded at all, but I got an instant headache when the blurred vision came on. Also, the other night I could barely hear out of my left ear.
blurred vision and a horrible headache? have you been having any high blood pressure readings? you should call your doctor… if it is related to high blood pressure it could be signs of preeclampsia… are you getting spots in your vision? definitely call your doctor…

It would be best for you to call your doctor, but i dont think you have something to worry about. But call your doctor ASAP!! (I’m 4 months pregnant, so I understand).

It’s pretty normal. Pregnancy hormones affect a lot of different aspects of your body. So does breastfeeding – I still have days of blurred vision, and my son is over a year now.

Both my doctor and optomotrist have told me that it’s normal!

I’ve heard that women’s eyes change in pregnancy but I don’t know about blurred vision. Are you light headed? Perhaps you have something else going on like anemia. You should call your doctor and ask him/her if this is something you should be concerned about.

That isn’t normal. Could be preclampsia. Go to your doctor ASAP.

It has nothing to do w/ the test. During pregnancy, your body holds onto extra fluids, i.e. blood, amniotic fluid, etc. The eyes also will hold extra fluid, putting pressure on the retina and changing the shape of the eye= blurred vision. See an optometrist if it’s making life difficult, but it is common. I wear glasses, and my script got worse during pregnancy…

I don’t think it is related to the test but if you are worried you should talk to your doctor about it. My vision gets really bad while I am pregnant and it goes back to almost normal afterwards so I wouldn’t be rushing to the eye doctor yet. I would wait and watch and see if it gets better.

It’s important to call your doctor as quickly as possible.
Some change in vision is normal for some women. In fact, some women who wear corrective lenses have to have a special prescription during pregnancy because their "normal" glasses don’t work for them during that time. This can include blurred vision and other abnormalities.
But there is another condition, pre-eclampsia, which can manifest itself during pregnancy and can be extremely dangerous to both the mother and the unborn child. One of the most dangerous things about pre-eclampsia is that you may never feel sick at all, yet you and your baby may be very unhealthy. One of the symptoms is blurred vision, though for some women who are far-sighted, there is some report of improved vision.
In any case, it is best to check with your doctor. There are simple tests they can perform to evaluate whether your symptoms are normal or are signs of something worth looking into.
Your doctor will most likely look at your blood pressure results and your most recent urinalysis, though he/she may call you in for an exam to get current readings on both. If your blood pressure is elevated and/or there is protein in your urine, your doctor will order further testing to determine the cause.

Sounds like you might have an inner ear infection. Talk to your doctor and tell him/her about your symptoms.

It has nothing to do with the test, I don’t think it has anything to do with pregnancy either. You should talk to your OB.

This is totally not normal in a pregnany.
You should
1- repeat your random blood sugar test , better if you do it , fasting blood sugar , post brandial sugar level
2- COMPLETE BLOOD PICTURE WITh emphasis on the Haemoglobin level
3- Blood pressure checking on 3 different intervals with 3 days difference between each
