Does good control of diabetes prevent the onset of eye complications?

My aunt controlled her diabetes with insulin injections for many years, but then one day she smashed her thumb with a hammer, foolishly took aspirin for the pain, which thins the blood, got a hemmorhage in her eye, and lost the eye. Please have a long discussion with your doctor related to what you need to avoid. If you take extra good care of yourself and know what to avoid, you’ll save yourself a LOT of heartache.

It certainly helps. Good control is essential to good health. It doesn’t mean you will never get any complications but it can prevent or at least delay them. I’ve been diabetic for 35 years and I’m still doing well.

it will slow the process down, if not taken care of things will progress alot faster

yes, all you have to do is keep your sugar under control and see an eye doctor once every year. If they see any minor problems they will fix it right there but if you dont, it might be too late to fix so just make sure you go once a year.

Good control of diabetes will prevent the onset of many of the complications that this disease can cause. It may sound strange, but I did not know how long that I was diabetic. In fact, I went from eating like everybody else in the world and went straight to insulin. After I got my sugar level in control, my eyesight all of a sudden went bad. Within a week I had the first of two surgeries for retinopathy. I had to have operations on both eyes. I am lucky that my condition was caught before it got to the point where it could not be treated. My eyesight is not the best, but at least I have it.

It will certainly help. Diabetes is an insidious disease, it is very important to keep your blood sugar within normal ranges.
