However, if you smoke or drink or do drugs, you will be more at risk than other smokers, drinkers and drug users. Type 1 diabetic 37 years, no neuropathy, good circulation. My A1C was 11 i think, which is really bad. Now my A1C is 6.2 and I have had it for 18 years now and still havent had any problems. Some say Im lucky to have this disease for so long and have nothing wrong. I have lots of tests done every 6 months by my endrocologonist and nothing has ever been wrong. and I have always been small to which is hard to believe with out of control blood sugars for so long.
