I am 17 weeks pregnant, Gestational Diabetes, Sugar levels dropped?!?!? 1

Nov 23, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

I am 17 weeks pregnant with my second. My first I had Gestational Diabetes and with this one my glucose levels have already been on the higher end. Doc is pretty sure I will be Insulin dependant again at some point during this pregnancy. Yesterday and this morning, however, my blood sugar levels were all around the normal-low range (and I didn’t change anything about what I would normally eat for the day). My before lunch reading was even borderline too low. My question is if this has happened to anyone else with GD, or if this could possibly be an early sign of a miscarrage? I haven’t felt pregnant in a few weeks (mainly because my morning sickness has finally ended, hurrah!) Any stories, or insight would be much apreciated : ) Thank you in advanced : )

I am 16 weeks pregnant, and have had diabetes-type one for 20 years. Although the docs give you a range to be in sometimes your body, the hormones and your organs decide something different, could be based on what you ate or how active you were or could just be your body doing what it wants. A low bloodsugar or an unusual low or high is not a sign of miscarriage, but it is something you shoudl watch more closely for your safety. When it happens that your bloodsugar is seemingly low for no good reason, test more often and eat more often to assure you are in a comfortable range for you. My advice is just take care of yourself the best that you know how. At this point in your pregnancy the baby is taking care of its own bloodsugars with its own insulin production. Make sure of course that you are keeping it in range, but dont freak over the little highs and lows every once and a while, they are worse for you right now than they are for your baby. Take care of you and your baby will follow.
Good Luck! I’ve been there for 20 years pregnant or not, it is not fun. I hope you don’t have to take insulin injections, but no matter what you are doing fine. Not to worry. Congrats and Good Luck!

Glucose metabolism is a complex thing, especially during pregnancy. Blood sugar variation is a natural phenomenon, but it’s the range of these sugars that are the important thing. Current guidelines suggest pregnant women should keep fasting sugars less than 5.9mmol/L and sugars 1 hour after eating less than 7.8mmol/L. As long as you’re maintaining these levels, you’re lowering the risk to your baby and yourself throughout this pregnancy.
With regards to could this be a sign of early miscarriage, that’s highly unlikely given that increased stresses to your body would typically raise blood sugars. Also, it’s still early in your pregnancy, and you’re more than likely to notice your sugars rising the later on in your gestation.

Glucose in my urine..gestational diabetes? Any info appreciated? 2

Nov 15, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

I am 36 weeks prego and passed my glucose intolerance test at 26 weeks so I was not considered to have gestational diabetes but I frequently had hypoglycemic attacks (usually when I had oj and sugary instant oatmeal for breakfast and waited too long for lunch) Yesterday they found glucose in my urine after I left and my doc called me and told me to cut out the sweets and watch my sugar intake. Does this mean I have gestational diabetes? I did eat ice cream the night before my urine test which was taken early in the am, dont know if that matters. I am going to the doc again on Mon and will have a blood test done to see whats up but until then I would like to know what it is. I am now following a Diabetic Diet (Im a nurse but not familiar with diabetes, I do know the diet though from working with patients) just in case to reduce the risk of increased insulin production in my baby. Any info? Do you think it was the ice cream that did it? Is the glucose in the urine a sign? I will chose best answer asap and give pos ratings, thank you :)

You are at the very end of your pregnancy.
Yes, it appears that you do have gestational diabetes.
The doctor will talk to you about watching carbohydrates and no, ice cream the night before should not have anything to do with sugar in the urine unless something was wrong.
It is possible that your doctor may want to deliver you a bit early due to the diabetes and the baby may need to be in the NICU for blood tests for 24 hours. There is an increased risk of high insulin production and thus hypoglycemia.
Ask all these question to your doctor and good luck for a strong healthy baby.
The diabetes will resolve right after delivery.

okay so i got pregnant and i was i think i 150 or 153 and lost 5 to 7 pounds i forget. This sunday i will be 23 weeks pregnant AKA 6 months. And i only gained 2 pounds back! like 1 pound a month me and my doctor are thinking that about time i get to 9 months that i will be back to 150 to 153

I will be breastfeeding and so i know that makes you lose weight alot to. Do you think i will be skinner after having the baby? Were you like this?

and the baby measures the perfect size and everything is good so i am wondering what are the Signs of Gestational Diabetes?

My friend gets diabetes when Pregnant and in the first few months her weight increased slightly but all in all very little. By the time she gave birth to her baby her baby had put on a lot of weight in the womb and was born weighing about 10lb :P

Can gestational diabetes appear in the last 3 weeks? 6

Nov 07, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

I’ve had normal tests all the way through this pregnancy, but lately I get these dizzy/weak spells accompanied by a cold sweat. Both of my parents are diabetic and I know that signs like that can either mean blood sugar is too low or too high.
I tested my blood sugar the other day when I felt like this and it was 120, which from what I understand is normal in someone who does not have diabetes. Well I felt like that again earlier and I tested it and it was 97, which my mother said was kinda low and that I needed to eat soon.
Can gestational diabetes just suddenly appear at the last second? Or hypoglycemia which is lower-than-normal blood sugar?

no
they pick it up early around 28 weeks so they time to get your diet and shots under control

hey i am almost 16 weeks prego .. and i have noticed if i stand up too long .. first i feel like i have to push my belly out .. like i am too full or something even if i haven*t eaten anything or not much at all .. then i begin to get like sweaty .. and i breath all heavy .. i get really hot and flushed and then i feel dizzy and like i am going to pass out .. on top of that i drink a lot like more than a gallon of water a day .. and i always feel thirsty .. for some reason water is the ONLY thing that helps with my thirst !! i just noticed this starting last week .. and i am kind of worried about it b/c of my job .. i am an ultrasound tech so i stand a lot .. my job allows me to sit and scan, but it isn*t the easiest thing to do .. some ultrasounds can take over an hour to 2 hours to complete !! so not being able to stand can be a problem .. has anyone had gestational diabetes or know of anyone who has had it .. what are the signs and symptoms .. thanks <3

Thoes are definalty syptoms of GD, i would go to your doctor asap and he will get you to do a 2 or a 3 hour glucose test and that way you will find out for sure if you have it or not.

No gestational diabetes! Yesss! But very low iron. What brand of iron pills do you suggest? 8

Oct 27, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

29wks1dy pregnant.

I was so worried I’d have GD bc all signs pointed to it:
- Gaining a great amount of weight (have already gained about 45lbs)
- ALWAYS hungry
- Baby weighed a guesstimated amount of 2lbs5oz at 27wks1dy on u/s. Doc said that she was a big baby.

Proud to say I don’t have GD!

But I have very low iron. What brand of iron pills do you suggest? Preferably small iron pills.

Thanks!

You can also try eating healthier foods and less fast food. Don’t know how you eat or anything, but I always try eating better first before I try pills.

Even with a well balanced diet, you don’t need to take prenatal vitamins because you get all the same vitamins the way you are supposed to when you eat healthy. But please take the vitamins you need if you don’t get them from the food you eat. I’m not saying to stop taking them.

Just try getting your iron from the food you eat. It will help encourage a healthier diet which is better for your baby. Then try the pills if that doesn’t work.

Oct 24, 2009 | Signs of Gestational Diabetes

In a previous question I had asked if I was having early sign of pregnancy. I said I was experiencing stomach cramps, spotting, mood swings, early morning headaches, and a yeast infection. Someones reply was that I sound pregnant, I could lose it, and I could have gestational diabetes. Please Help!!

Gestational diabetes is a sugar glucose/insulin impairment th@ happens only during pregnancy. It can cause a LOT of health problems for both you & your baby. There have been instances where babies have been taken early for the mother’s sake, the baby’s sake or both. Get to a doctor immediately & have them check for this condition!
