For the past couple of months, I’ve noticed that I am increasing thirsty. I drink water during the day when I feel thirsty, and I find that I am drink 8-10 pints a day. I’m just really thirsty!
I’ve been tested for diabetes before, and the tests have been negative. With the fasting blood tests I didn’t eat after midnight like they said, but did binge and eat a lot up till midnight. Could that have affected it?
drinking that much water need not mean you have diabetes (even if thats suppsoed to be a symptom)… i used to drink a lotta water just like you sometime ago and i’m pretty sure i haven’t got diabetes or anything else (had a general check-up too recently)…
my grandma used to say thats bcos i’m eating lotsa salty items or items which contain more salt than water… and i dont think thats an old wives’ tale either…
anyway chill out..!! if you feel like it, get another test done… but dont get all fretted over it or you might really get diabetes out of some kinda "psychological reaction"…

I pee a lot more, and I’m really thirsty…I sometimes have nausea and minor headaches, and I feel tired(although when I sleep well,IN THE EVENING I’m kinda "hyperactive").I don’t pee to the point of waking up at night though.I didn’t really lose weight,I did gain some but I can explain it,coz I’m eating way more than I did before(well, for 3months or so I ate very little and exercised a lot,so I lost weight, and now I gained most of it back),so yea it is kinda expected. But I still never been overweight,I just always was a bit chubby,on the healthy weight range.I do eat quite some sugar, but I’m always running on the stairs, and exercise for AT LEAST twice a week.None of my parents have diabetes, none of my aunts and uncles, none of my cousins, but my grandma does, and she had it at an old age,so yea,it’s kind of common.I’m so extremely scared and I don’t ever drink soda since a year ago,I don’t add sugar to tea or coffee, but I eat lots of chocolate, sweets, fruit.I am turning 14next month
You may be at risk. The internet is not a good place for medical diagnosis. Diabetes can only be diagnosed by a doctor. Eating chocolate and sweets will not create diabetes but if you are diabetic then they can greatly aggravate the condition.
excercise is good..follow a good diet with fruits and veggies (not fried) and a very limited amount of meat..this is good whether or not you are diabetic. Type II diabetes often de velops over a period of years so you could be "pre-diabetic" even if no one in your family has a history of it. There is an inexpensive test available at large pharmacies…the a1c test. It measures the average glucose in your system for the past 3 months. There is a "strip test" with a meter but that is not unless you know you have diabetes and can be prescribed by a doctor. The a1c is at my local walmart for $8…. follow directions carefully read them until you are SURE you understand….the test requires a 12 hour fast(nothing to eat for 12 hours) best done overnight…do not eat anything (you can drink water) after supper and test before breakfast the next day. The test will give a number…
any where from 5 to 7 is normal with 6 being the best..if you are near the high or low end see a doctor and get a better test. I am glad you are concerned about this even though you do not seem to be a HIGH risk. Better to check it out..Someday a test like this will be given in school (like the patch test etc) Good luck and remember this is only a suggestion…if you are really concerned see a doctor.

There is no evidence of diabetes after many tests and there is not excessive urination at night. The sleep disturbances have not been helped with "sleep hygiene" methods. There is very vivid dreaming and recall. The thirst is high-moderate at all times with bouts of sudden great thrist, which if not eleviated quickly cause dizziness. There is also a history of brain trauma.
There isn’t excessive urination compared to the amount of water intake and urination is not the primary cause of insomnia. While there have been possible indicators of pituitary issue Prolactin levels seem to be in normal range. (Hx of thyrioditis-resolved.) This is curiousity based not looking for a diagnosis.
Any dosage of Melatonin triggers headaches. Water consumption is high so urine out put is probably comparable. It is not unsual to drink a liter of water while "sleeping". Psychotherapy and sleep hygiene have not relieved symptoms. Symptoms have been on-going for 20 yrs.
Vasopressin is an anti-diuretic hormone, have a look at this site for more information:
http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/hypopit/adh.html
A lack of vasopressin should cause polyuria (excessive urination) which is required to avoid brain damage during to the excess of water ingested because of the bursts of thirsts. You say you have an history of brain damage, which might suggest that this regulation is missing in your body.
While there is evidence that a lack of vasopressin can cause excessive nocturnal urination, nothing suggests that this hormone can cause similar symptoms "per-se". I would rather think that your insomnia is of a nervous origin. Try seeking for help with psycotherapy or hipnosis. Yoga and herbal remedies could also help a bit.
I suffer from insomnia too and, although if I lay awake in my bed I tend to visit the bathroom often, I don´t really "need" to empy the bladder, it is just an anxiety-related response.
Good luck

I have been feeling an excessive thirst for a couple of days. I remembered from somewhere that it is the symptom of diabetes so I found some information on this, and figured that it is the only symptom so far. I am 18. Do I most likely have diabetes just out of nowhere or am I just freaking out?
Thank you for your help.
okay stay calm and take a blood test at your next doctors appointment then tell him about your extended dehydration

yes, as is excessive trips to the RR, eating like crazy but losing weight, being exhausted, having to get up in the night to pee or get a drink, loss of energy and inability to concentrate. These are all signs of diabetes. If you are curious, have your dr run a glucose tolerance test. If you hate needles like I do take someone with you b/c you will get poked about 4 times, but they are only the little finger pricks, so they aren’t really too bad. I have just been diagnosed with diabetes 2 weeks ago, so I am learning all this as I go. Best of luck and I hope your health works out for the best.
